Awakening Osiris:
The Egyptian Book of the Deadby Normandi Ellis

This beautiful relief, pregnant with meaning, is located on the north wall of the Hypostyle Hall in the Great Temple of Amon at Karnak in Upper Egypt. We see ibis-headed Thoth, God of Wisdom (top left) writing the name of Pharaoh Seti I on the Tree of Life (identified as Acacia nilotica, a species rich in DMT). Seti is crouched beside the tree. I highly recommend “Awakening Osiris”, Normandi Ellis’s transcendent poetic translation, direct from the hieroglyphs, of the ancient Egyptian Book of the Dead. Her translation approaches the Book of the Dead as a profound spiritual text with a resonant message for us today.

It appears to me that Thoth is actually harvesting the “fruit” of the Tree of Life, plucking with one hand while holding the other (right) hand ready to catch the fruit when it falls. Similarly, the kneeling figure at the tree holds a fruit in an identically positioned (right) hand.

My initial impression was that Thoth is passing out fruits to the kneeling figures, who are then offering it to someone, since the kneeling figure at far right, “supervised” by Isis? Hathor? is clearly offering something to someone.
