Hi Sue That often seems to be a lot of folks' assumption outside NZ and Oz (that Auckland is the capital of NZ). Probably due to some of the following:- Auckland is home of the NZ Navy (at Devonport), it's headlined in tourist promotional terms as of The City Of Sails - where the international Louis Vuitton racing yacht regatta takes place each year, Aucklanders claim that they have the best

As you know, Auckland was in fact the original capital of NZ from 1842 to 1865, and I sometimes wonder if eventually its sheer relative size compared to other NZ cities may ultimately mean that it reclaims that title sooner or later.

lol, Deep - this all shows how comparatively "insulated" people are around the obviously still-wide world. And I guess that answers on world cities and similar associated awareness probably also vary in accuracy depending on whereabouts the respondents live.

Good luck with celeb snaps this time round - my wife visited Vegas sometime back and we aim to get there sooner or later. And she's got 11 cousins in Louisiana; her mum's sister fell for a US airman's charms when he was stationed over here in the UK :)

You've tried to argue that poverty could be abolished if people were allowed to keep more of their minimum wage. You've ever referred to someone as "my (insert racial or ethnic minority here) friend." You're a pro-lifer, but support the death penalty. You've ever referred to the moral fiber of something. You've ever uttered the phrase, "Why don't we just bomb the sons of bitche

Hi Elizabeth Yes, regarding the generosity of Kiwis to stranded travelers in Auckland, that's both heartwarming and unsurprising to me, as I always noted their "kindness to strangers". And it's refreshing to know that greed didn't feature in their actions - unlike what has transpired in the treatment of stranded folks in Europe! And Melbourne is definitely on our visit-list, next time

Hi Elizabeth, thanks for voicing your views ref Auckland viz a viz South Island NZ. Yes, what you say about South Island has been previously echoed to me many times by Kiwis who popped into the radio station studios when I was on air at The Flea FM on Devonport Wharf. They told me they were visiting Auckland and Devonport plus The North Shore from South Island, and I also had some great chats wi

Hi Sue There's a saying that came to mind to us during the past few months....People are more important than Places .... and this clinched it for us. It's strange, but we even started missing little things like the sound of church bells on a Sunday morning and seeing friends in the local pub etc.. I think a friend of ours back home here said it best:- "The UK has a quirkiness and charm

Well, after nearly 2 years Down Under in NZ wifey and I have finally returned back to the UK last Tuesday 13th April, narrowly escaping the volcano ash air ban. it's been an interesting 2 years, we met some great people, saw some fantastic scenery and experienced awesome weather. But we had to make several compromises:- Prices in shops up to 30% more expensive than in UK Wages around 25% lower
