Hi Archae You are correct. The sarcophagus to which you are referring does indeed, in 2D, appear bulb-shaped. It can be viewed from a number of 3D perspectives here, which illustrate your point: Hope this helps to clarify your position. :) Post Edited (30-Apr-14 18:47)

Hi will Having read your most recent post on your site with respect to mercury plasma seeming to 'repel' at the point where the glass 'bulb' is touched, my question to you is this: What accounts for the many undulations of the snake Nefertem's body on the reliefs when there are not a corresponding number of hands touching the 'bulb' at each point, like you demonstrate in the photograph of you h

Hi lover While I disagree with Fuzzy's contention that the relief depicts a sarcophagus lid, I think it somewhat unfair to bash David Rohl's credentials as an Egyptologist. Your remark that he "almost got a PhD" - while factually correct - belies a seemingly sneering sarcasm about a qualification that would not serve to strengthen Rohl's subject knowledge as an 'authority' on the matte

I explained the "shapes" used in an earlier post, Daniel, which I copy here for you: I understand the relief to be a depiction of creation: the lotus flower, according to the AEs, was the first thing to spring from the primordial sea of nothingness. The lotus flower then brings about the creation of Atum Re, depicted as the snake (and not a light bulb filament!) The god Atum creates

Daniel Any knowledge of plasma tubes is utterly negated by the text of the hieroglyphs on the walls of the crypt at Dendera, though, which recount the Heliopolitan creation myth of Atum, which is then depicted below in the relief. There is no enigma or mystery. People who advocate the light bulb hypothesis either choose to ignore, or are unable to read, the hieroglyphs. :)

I agree, Frank. Nefertem - sometimes rendered as Atem or Tem, being Atum in the Graeco Roman period of the Book of Going forth by Day. The hieroglyphs in the crypt at Dendera explain the creation myth. No mention of the emergence of a revolutionary technology, though. :)

Hi Will If you are unable to read the hieroglyphs, might I ask how you are able to announce that the text does indeed refer to the 'technology' depicted in the relief directly beneath it? Frank D who posted on 29th April, time stamped at 15:33, has already explained in some detail what the meaning of the hieroglyphs is. Needless to say, the text does not include any reference to 'technology'

Hi Will So, it doesn't matter if you've taken a swimming class or not ... for you, the key is: can you swim? Your imagination, coupled with a scientific knowledge that surpasses mine, has enabled you to design a working model of something you have made to resemble the temple reliefs. However, using your analogy of swimming might I ask whether you are able to read the hieroglyphs which accompan

I apologise, I am unable to read German. However, I have managed to make sense of your site and found the English translation certainly readable, if a little less than perfect. I enjoyed the content of your website and found it to be informative, so thank you for sharing your ideas on this topic via your webpage. I think you present an objective evaluation of the reliefs, applying a scientific

Hello Frank Having just read the part of your website where you discuss the "Light of the Pharaohs", you mention the absence of soot in subterranean tombs and on the ceilings of temples. Ironically, in the very temple where the enigmatic "light bulb" reliefs adorn the walls, the ceiling of the temple in Dendera was covered with a thick layer of soot and, having been clea

Hi William Can I ask: where is the evidence in the archaeological record for these devices? If a technology had been harnessed, would it not become commonplace? Take, by way of example, Ancient Egyptian horse-drawn chariots, embracing the technology of the wheel, which are found in the archaeological record; the four best preserved examples discovered in the tomb of Tutankhamun. We know that

You're welcome, I'm glad you liked the reference and the image. At least Plutarch as a historical source has the added benefit of being two thousand years closer to the Ancient Egyptians than any modern Egyptologist could ever claim! As a deity who stretches back as far as the fifth dynasty, something you may find of interest is that the Ba of Osiris was worshipped as a deity in its own right.

Hi Daniel Having inspected the photographic image you provided, the images clearly show the presentation of votive offerings by a pharaoh wearing the crown of Upper Egypt, or White Crown 'Hedjet' to the seated goddess Hathor. One would expect to see images like this on a temple dedicated by pharaoh to the goddess, Hathor. What is your interpretation of these images? :)

Hi Lover Reading the content of your posts, I had inferred that you find orthodox opinion less than satisfying, at least with respect to djed pillars. I am in agreement with you that the use of myth to communicate the sense one has made of the world inevitably leads to symbolism and no-one takes the symbolism literally; moreover, the symbolism helps one to deduce the underlying abstract concept

Hi Lover Thanks for your reply. With respect to the image you posted, taken from the tomb of Kheruef in Thebes, that depicts the pharaoh raising a djed pillar which is - if drawn to scale - about one and a half times the height of the man to its left, steadying it as the pillar is pulled upright. This would suggest a height of approximately 2.75 metres, which leads one to conclude that it was

Hello William and welcome to the GHMB. I'm curious to know from your post: * why should 'fantasy' not be discounted? By definition, fantasy is beyond the realm of plausibility and therefore need not be entertained in a discussion about the meaning of a temple relief; * what is the "puzzle" to which you refer? Surely not the depiction of the creation myth in a crypt, with the mummi

And your thoughts on the complete absence of any physical archaeological evidence to corroborate your notion? By the way, the relief is regarded by Egyptologists to be Graeco-Roman and so it is not older than the soot damaged ceiling. What gave you the idea it was? :) Post Edited (26-Apr-14 13:38)

Hi Daniel You did indeed. Conversely, the relief could also be a literal depiction of the Heliopolitan creation myth. The presence of Atum in a crypt - which is where the alleged 'light bulb' can be viewed - is hardly surprising. He appears in serpentine form at the beginning AND the end of the creative cycle. The crypt houses the corporeal body - the first human life was thought by AEs to hav

Hi Daniel If you are referring to the Hathor temple at Dendera then I do not understand what "animation" you refer to. The columns at the entrance to the temple simply depict the face of the goddess Hathor on their capitals; in fact, they are called Hathoric columns and depict the face on all four sides of each capital. Read about them here: I am not sure what you see as you have

Hi Lover You wrote: "If it was a depiction of Atum and creation, then why are there two Atums? Soot on the ceiling came from thousands of years of fuel-burning torches and lamps used by others long after the Ancient Egyptians had left the temple." Just to clarify: * Atum is the serpent in the relief. There is only one Atum in the bubble of air, springing forth from the lotus

Daniel The parts do not look technical, at all. There is a lotus flower, a snake and a bubble: and yes, temple walls often depict mythological narratives or scenes. There is also a zodiac on the ceiling in the Osiris chapel of the Hathor temple; a planisphere depicting the 12 constellations of the zodiacal band and the representation of the zodiac in circular form is also unique. However, th

What do your consider to be the meaning of the glyph which you (rightly, in my opinion) question in your original post? It would seem that the idea of "followers" is derived from contextual cues and so, while a "guess", it is one which nevertheless makes sense. :)

You missed my point. Unless you can upload clear images or direct me to a website where I can view such images for myself, I can offer no comment on the detail on the ferula. In the images on the Net, I can see that the papal ferula features a lamb with a halo ... in Christian iconography, this is indisputably the sacrificial lamb of God, Jesus. The Christian messiah is referred to in

Hi Phillip I appreciate that Eliphas Levi may have drawn inspiration for his 19th century sketch from the ram-headed Egyptian deity Banabdjed but illustrations of "The Devil" in 19th century tarot packs also evidently influenced his famous sketch. My point was that Levi's sketch of Baphomet is, as I stated, entirely unconnected with the medieval European 'Baphomet' who featured in the

Thanks, Ivano. I agree with you that the ankh represents the 'cycle(s) of life' as expressed through the passing of day into night, the seasons of the year and of life into Afterlife. I simply chose to describe it as 'divinity' and 'fertility' to suggest the AE view that the 'breath of life' is God-given and it continues to exist after the death of the corporeal body it inhabited while on E

Can you supply a photo image which clearly shows these goat figures on the papal ferula? I've searched the Net but am unable to find one which renders them clearly. Also, when you mention Baphomet are you not confusing it with the image of the "Sabbatic Goat" drawn by Eliphas Levi in 1855 and later adopted by the Church of Satan in the 20th century? This image is completely unconnect

Hi Phillip As an atheist I have no interest in defending Christianity - or any other religion for that matter. I concur that there are some parallels in the mythology of Horus and Jesus as solar deities (though far, far fewer than Zeitgeist purports) but I have never been able to find an AE reference to substantiate the claim that Horus is a 'lamb of God' hence why I asked you to supply one
