I think most people in Iceland and Greenland would be happier if their countries were US Base - free.

Pete, in my opinion you're out of line here, and judging someone in a manner most horrible. How can you say that especially Roelf doesn't know what happened down there?? Because it interferes greatly with everything you have previously known about the situation. There are always numerous different views to any situation, and none of them are wrong. The way a situation is perceived depends on prev

Hi Meph, you lucky bugger! :-) You just spent an entire month in Peru, and now you're in the Dominican Republic? Are you touring the world, working a bit here and there to get along economically, or are you just plain rich? How was Machu Picchu? Being one of the places I'd like to go to the most in this world, I envy you and wonder how the experience of seeing it in real life was for you? What

Hi MEPH! No, you didn't waste your time at all. Your efforts don't go unnoticed, and may do more than is superficially apparent. Cheer up, mate! Your rewards for trying to others some good will come to you in time, even though appreciation would be nice right away. I appreciate the effort very much, as I'm sure many others do. Sincerely, Ole Bentsen P.S. How's Australia this time of year? He

Thanks for posting that link, JC. Where I come from you really have to find your own way in the media jungle, and not just sit back and let yourself be fed, so thanks! Ole B.

Hi ananda! Like you state in the later parts of your post, I also believe that conflict can be good and can develop character and mental strength, not to mention that it's a great way to learn things from people who do not see things the same way we do. Two open and respectful people, who honestly disagree with one another can benefit much from their disagreement. Sometimes, though, when peopl

Hi Darryl H... Thank you very much for tipping me about how to conduct myself in regards to food when in Egypt. I'll certainly heed your advice. Have you been there many times? What I don't look forward to is the gammaglobulin injection for hepatitis, which I need to get before going there. My girlfriend, who is also going, has lived in Africa for 10 years in the 80's and 90's, and tells me tha

I think Levanah is going, but she hasn't been in here much lately. Several people often frequenting this site are going, I believe, and maybe you should ask the tour guides themselves how many are going so far. I'm going to Egypt in June for two weeks, though not as part of the Stars & Signs tour. I've never seen Egypt before, so naturally I'm overly excited. How about you, have you been the

Carlos said: "Operation Olympic (the planned Invasion of Japan) would have cost the lives of tens of thousands of american soldiers and millions of japanese lives. Those two bombs killed less people than the raids on Tokio. Or the destruction of Dresden in germany." You say 'would have cost'. That is a guess, and although maybe a likely one, it does not justify sacrificing any number

Hi AaronBrady! Have a great trip to China/Cambodia, and tell us all about it when you come home, okay? Honestly, I envy you so much, but hope to make a trip to the Angkor temples and surrounding monuments sometime in the future. Which temples are you planning to see? There are more than eighty sites there! Makes one wish that one could spend a whole year there. You've probably got all angles o

Hi Lizard King, MEPH probably not so much anti-American as he's one who just tries to counterbalance the one-sided and sometimes narrowminded information that is given to the western civilization. I think he's doing a wonderful job, and I enjoy his postings tremendously. I'm definitely NOT anti-American, actually I don't think I'm anti-any-culture. I'm anti-certain-ways-of-being, but that's an a

I think there are (at least two) very different ways of defining courage or 'guts'. Some would say it's courage to willingly board a suicide plane. Some would say that even though the act of suicide for the sake of religion is brave, but I believe it is still rooted in cowardice. An act might be courageous, but we must remember its origins. No matter how much you polish a turd, it'll still be a t

Dearest Anna! I thank you much for your poems. Poetry can really encapsulate the essence of life and help us bring out the feelings that other forms of the written word can not. 'The Raven' by Poe is also a favorite of mine. Though I am a positive and happy man, I sometimes find my self drawn to gloomy reading. Perhaps my mind is creating an unconscious balance between happiness and gloominess.

Yes, one can indeed narrow things down by only giving people a hundred films to choose from. Where the h... is my favorite movie of all time?? My favorite being the film that won 9 Oscars in 1959, namely BEN HUR! Is it because Charlton Heston is the head of the National Rifle Association...?? Does anyone else find a favorite film of theirs lacking on the list? Comprising the list in such a way

I choose cake!! Filling ones stomach with a tasteful piece of cake and thus raising sugar levels and energy is at ALL times preferable to having any part in someone else being unfaithful or being unfaithful yourself. Nice story, though. I'm going on a small hiking trip today to an area where a friend of mine once heard the sounds of the infamous Aurora plane, but at the time he didn't know what

Hey, your IP-number (next to your name in your posts) is identical to one used by me in many of my posts. From that I can only deduce that you must somehow have gained access to the same server as me when I am at home. I don't like this, it's getting spooky.... Ole B.

Hi Anna! I actually haven't read 'The word for world is forest', but a great person I know recommended it to me sometime ago, and I recommended it to other people on her behalf. Got a problem with that? :-) If you've read it, maybe you'd like to summarize the plot for everyone here, including me! I get the feeling that you're systematically searching for posts with my name on it! Why is that?

Dear Anna G. ! First of all, yes you are right in pointing out that the marvelous poem 'The Road not taken' was brought to my attention by you. I believe the reason I did not give a reference to my posting of the poem, was that I had never believed that you would find your way on to this message board, and thus people in here would not know of you. They do now, which is why I believe a proper 't

Hi Bent! Thank you VERY much for posting a Danish poem! And it really encapsulates the Danish sentiment, at least as I remember it being years ago. The poem also reflects age, in that the choice of words show it to be a little old, but very charming and cute, really. It reminds me of Danish Christmas songs, especially 'Sneflokke kommer vrimlende', yet not in regards to the content of your poem,

One of my favorites by Edgar Allan Poe:Take this kiss upon the brow! And, in parting from you now, Thus much let me avow- You are not wrong, who deem That my days have been a dream; Yet if hope has flown away In a night, or in a day, In a vision, or in none, Is it therefore the less gone? Hi Gordon! Very good point, really. I think however that for many people the Bible or the Koran (or else) are books that go without saying. It's important that we keep your point in mind, though. Do you think I'm wrong in suggesting that some books go without saying? Douglas wanted fellow posters to name books that have changed lives, and no doubt the Koran or the Bible have changed many.

Hi Douglas, great idea regarding book favorites or 'just' books that have changed the way we think, feel or see. Here's list of some of my favorites: Franchezzo - Accounts of life in the world after death. (A very remarkable and sincere book) Dainin Katagiri - You have to say something. (A great book by a man embedded in zen buddhism) Graham Hancock - Fingerprints of the Gods. J.R.R. Tolki

All days come from one day that must you must know, you cannot change what's ove

Hi Elizabeth! I cannot possibly believe that there is NOT life on other planets in this vast universe, which is most likely filled with many billion planets we have not yet identified and analyzed. Aliens? That's another, and much more, difficult question to answer. I do not believe that creatures from other planets have made contact with us yet, and if they have, then they have done so by mean
