This is Imhotep: the vizier and physician of King Zoser and afterwards the Egyptian god of medicine, Jamieson Boyd Hurry, 1926, Oxford University Press, H. Milford. On p. 24, Hurry says:
Another source, however, qualifies this statement by saying that Imhotep was:"perhaps the son of a distinguished architect, Kanofer ... " ("Egyptian architecture as cultural expression", Earl Baldwin Smith, 1968, p 61).
However, I do wonder sometimes if ancient traditions to the effect that "so-and-so is the son/daughter of such-and-such" might not be another way of saying that so-and-so was taught by such-and-such. So you might have a point. Perhaps Imhotep was simply a pupil of Kanofer, rather than his biological son. But, one way or another, it appears that Imhotep was much influenced by Kanofer - so, son or pupil, perhaps it comes down to much the same in the end.
