From your 07-Mar-11 03:26 post above, you stated ”…the universe that Ogo "measures out" consists of 28,800,000 "steps" – the same as the approximate number of light years in the diameter of the visible universe.” Emphasis mine.
To wit, I responded that your figure was not correct, rather that “the diameter of the observable universe is estimated to be 28 billion parsecs (about 93 billion light-years)”.
Remarkably, you countered with the following:
Again, emphasis mine.Quote
“My reference is to a 2005 text called The Gateway to Understanding: Electrons to Waves and Beyond By Matthew M. Radmanesh. The text states: "His computation at this time indicates that we live in a physical universe with an approximate diameter of 8000000000 light years"”.
Laird, how you managed to leap from 28,800,000 (28.8 million) to 8,000,000,000 (8 billion) I have yet to determine.
For purposes of edification, over the course of the past several days, I have been engaged in correspondence with Dr. Radmanesh, regarding the source of the information you quoted from his book. Upon inquiry, Dr. Radmanesh informed me that his source was The Hammond Family World Atlas, Vol. 1, page II, Brooklyn, New York, copyright 1963.
I leave it to the ‘casual reader’, and you, Laird, to draw the relevant conclusions as to the import of my observations.
