Laird, 28 million, 800 thousand “steps” or “light years” is not ”the approximate number of light years in the diameter of the visible universe”. I believe you are confusing ‘parsecs’ with “light years”
My reference is to a 2005 text called The Gateway to Understanding: Electrons to Waves and Beyond By Matthew M. Radmanesh. The text states: "His computation at this time indicates that we live in a physical universe with an approximate diameter of 8000000000 light years"
Also, as regards the Dogon term "step", the Hebrew Mishnah claims that the cubit (measure from the elbow to the tip of the middle finger) also represents the average step of a man. Likewise, when constructing a Dogon granary (counterpart to a Buddhist stupa), each stairway step measures one cubit in height and depth. In other words, the Dogon choice of the word "step" also implies the concept of "cubit".
