I have to say first up that my assessment of 'rap' was in no way meant to deride African/Americans- many of whom contributed greatly to the earlier flowering of 'Rock' I mentioned.
Perhaps I should have used the term 'destructive',rather than'degenerate' music, which fits more appropriately with your development of the concept- and possibly with Michael's allusions to the power of music to levitate or destroy rock[ no pun intended ] forms.
In relation to this idea of music as a vehicle for building construction, I would like to suggest that it is more appropriately an 'organisation of sound impulses' rather than music as such. To me great 'music' is the manifestation of a range of formerly 'disembodied entities' that populate our universe in vast numbers.
