I understand your point entirely, as there are many who place their faith in relics, and Italy is full of them. I have seen pieces of the cross, the manger, the steps where Jesus was sentenced to die, etc. The list goes on and on. I guess I just find the shroud uniquely interesting simply because it cannot be explained, and it fits the biblical account so closely. I don't necessarily see it as a distraction. It got people on the board talking!
