1 John 2:18 is the 'rally call' of all orthodox premileniallists.
Given all of the excellent language tools we have for interpreting Greek, the literalist translators refuse to accept that 'COME' in 1 John 2:18 is rendered in the PRESENT tense.
Here is how i1 John 2:18 should read:
"Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard, that antichrist HAS COME, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time."
Most people understand antichrist to mean 'against christ' (which is a possibility), but it can also mean 'in place of christ'.
The NT (like middle platonism) teaches that the 'old man' is replaced by the 'new man' upon our spiritual rebirth.
The 'antichrist' occupies our identity before spiritual rebirth, the antichrist is 'in place' of christ which implies an adversary.
It is a present personal thing (to reject Christ) and not an external thing, for John goes on to say:
"Who IS a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? HE IS ANTICHRIST, that denieth the Father and the Son"
Who is antichrist?
Those who forsake The Logos (christ) as a mediator of the Father/Son relationship of the soul.
