First of all, I can not agree with your definition of civilization. Nowadays, there are nomadic people. Are they not part of our civilization? They do share our technology, language, writing, etc. Being settled down sure makes it easier to develop civilization, but I do not feel it is a prerequisite.
I apologize for not being clear, I realize I confused you. I do not believe that only Homo Sapiens can develop civilization. In my mind our differences with the Neanderthals, for example, are minor.
I hear your idea of the quantum leap and it is interesting, but - assuming it is true - I do not see how one could pinpoint the first such leap at 3.100 BCE, even roughly. Is there something I missed?
