In the essence of consciousness, which is the energy or intelligence that abides in all living things, the ingredients are the same through time. In the evolution of self consciousness - the ability to be aware and reflect on ourselves and our experiences, the ways that we can dissect our inner psychology and the way that we can express our human experience with awareness, has evolved greatly.
I more or less agree, but |I'd use the word 'expanded' rather than your penultimate word, 'evolved'. That is because our ability to use language and to articulate abstract ideas has enabled us to accumulate and pass on acquired knowledge and skills. And of course, because we're a species which has survived with the whole range of behaviours intact, this means that what are classed as any kind of 'incorrect' or 'wrong' behaviours goes along with the more beneficial knowledge!
