We have recently had other authors suggesting we could learn something from earlier cultures, which some these days like to label "primitive", especially if they have shamans.
There is a book "Einstein and the poet, in search of the cosmic man".
Who was the poet? He was a professor of sociology and a fellow German, also with some Jewish blood in him. He was much more as well, too hard for me to fit in here.
Like Einstein he lost most of his family and friends in the holocaust. His name was William Hermanns.
He interviewed Einstein four times. Einstein was the one who was searching for the cosmic man. He could not see how humans could survive without some spirituality.
He was also very pessimistic about the future - we would be fighting the fourth world war with Stone Age clubs.
To me I despair over the constant quest for EXPANSION, DEVELOPMENT, PROGRESS.
Isn't it time we try to make do with what we have and recycle a lot more, and SHARE?
Sharing, don't be stupid! Too hard to figure out. All the refugees come from places that used to be ok and they had a life and we're happy, so how come they are now refugees?
Could it be GREED? Not their greed, but somebody else's.
How can we use the best of two worlds, our present one with all the nice technologies, and the best of many of the old world's, minus their own cruelties and superstitions?
Is it possible to fix our problems without a catastrophe?
We will soon find out.
