Hi Darryl,

Great article.

I too, had a happy childhood. I was born in November 1947 and my only sibling (Jude) says she thinks I must have come down in the Roswell Crash. However, life was good for me growing up as the only son, and only grandson, of a well-to-do farming family in Australia. On leaving school however it did not work out for me on the farm - so at the age of 22 I decided to move on. And now; nearly 50 years later I look back on a working career that involved 25 different occupations.

I recall when studying for a BA Degree in the mid-1970s one was likely to be subject to ridicule if you did not declare yourself an atheist. So, unable to convince myself that life (and matter) could have got kick-started from nothing I would describe myself as agnostic.

In September 1993, when travelling in the Philippines, I had an experience that changed my life. I came across an idea that, initially, I just put in the ‘interesting’ basket. Over the years however that simple idea has overtaken my life. Yes there have been countless hours of research and writing (5 books in total) but that is not the issue here. I do not know if it is a curse or a gift – but it seems I am the most creative during the times when I should be asleep. My wife has long ago moved me into the spare room. And mostly I sleep with a pen and note paper by my bed.

What do you think is happening here? And given my health has suffered a major decline – can I ask them to go away?
