I would add that that most African tribes, including most famously the Dogon, credit the celestial as the source of primary cultural knowledge. From my book The Kivas of Heaven: "The intimacy that many African tribes have with the celestial realm is presently confirmed by a world-renowned Zulu Sangoma (medicine man) and High Sanusi (“uplifter of the people”) whose name is Vusamazulu Credo Mutwa.

“I learned astronomy from Swazi healers who said that the stars were very important to the welfare of humans and animals on earth. They taught me that all knowledge that we humans possess comes from the stars above. They told me something that my Christian mind refused to mind to believe; namely that there were creatures among the stars who sometimes visited us, bringing us knowledge. They are the ones who brought us the laws that we now have. They are the ones who gave us our belief in God.”"
