Beautiful vessels! I agree with you entirely that the fluoride weathering on the agate piece brings out even more detail in the piece. The other piece that catches my eye is the nephrite lovers cup with the nipples along the exterior. You mentioned that it was likely done with a stone disc of some kind. That's quite a bit of work laid out for the carver to hand grind out that much material. Going back to your book, perhaps they used some sort of mechanism. Maybe similar to a throwing wheel or a lathe to spin the piece while someone else held the carving disc inside and slowly reamed each cavity out.
