The approach I take to these seeming anomalies is the same as I take in a game of Clue - I ask myself whether there is any card in my hand that would disallow Colonel Mustard in the Library with the Candlestick. If not, then I simply place the reference in the category of an open question.
My bottom line when it comes to the Ancient Alien Hypothesis is that for me, at best, it's an open question.
