First of all, thanks for starting this interesting thread when the AoM period was about to end with a feeling of dissapointment or frustration for many of us. Your posts, as well as Laird's and Thanos' in particular have led to remarkable insights about this topic (when it seemed that all had been said after all those years...!).
I made a humble contribution to the debate explaining my point of view, which somehow is similar to yours (and I recognize the influence of your arguments in "Supernatural"). I also have a great respect for Laird and his work about the ancient egyptians and the dogon, and I think that his opinion about the interaction between primitive humans and the so-called "gods" who came from the stars is compelling, as other legends and lores all over the world also speak about gods who came from the stars. And for me it remains a mystery with a difficult logical explanation.
Anyway, most of us may consider that there was a higher intelligence with great powers on earth in a remote past, but where did it come from? I think that the main problem is how to define "alien". In TV documentaries as "Ancient aliens", any object or fact that has a difficult explanation is automatically regarded as "alien" and this obsession is almost hilarious or absurd (and obviously not much scientific). I even thought that sometimes the alternative authors were forced to give certain answers related to extraterrestrials in order to "enhance the show"; in other words, the end justifies the means.
However, when you study the iconography of the ancient astronaut (or aliens) there is great diversity of forms. Some of them look humanoid, but others are strange beings which are difficult to classify. Therefore, what is alien and what is not? And the next step is the key question: what is human and what is not? According to some ancient traditions, humans have suffered a process of involution (not evolution!!), and then it is possible to think of a epoch when humans where less dense, perhaps spiritual beings, with a very high level of consciousness, and they were capable of modifyng matter in unbelievable ways for our "modern common sense". So, maybe these were the "alien gods". And there are other possibilities as well, for example, intraterrestrials beings that live in their own inner world with little contact with the surface of the planet.
Of course, it is also possible that the so called aliens may be a sort of interdimensional beings that operate in our 3-D physical world, but they have easy access to several dimensions and they know how to appear and dissapear in our world, because it is not as "solid" or "material" as we think.
And my last thought: we have been educated to believe in a certain world, and therefore our minds need to classify the normal things as "terrestrial", and the anomalous things as "alien" (or impossible, nonsense, madness, hallucination, illusion, etc.) If we are able to expand our conciousness towards other types of knowledge or awareness, perhaps we will be on the correct path to solve the problem of these "anomalies".
