Like carolb says: I think you've answered your own question, Graham. There IS no incontrovertible evidence. All the ancient artifacts you've written about in your books are the product of human, not alien, ingenuity.
The Annunaki of the Sumerians, Elohim and Nephilim of the Torah, the book of Enoch, and the Vedas all seem to imply a race or races of beings that had dominion over humankind. These are all firmly embedded in the mythologies of our beginnings. Whether they come from off-planet or are simply the last of their kinds left from a changed climate...remains open to interpretation.
Some suggest the ancient Megaliths and Monoliths could only have been created with alien technology.
Present day speculative proofs are stuck with the StarChild skull, the Paracas elongated skulls, and the Atacama mini-mummy made famous by Dr. Greer.
All in all still doubtful but worth keeping an open mind.
Personally, I believe we don't need God or aliens to explain the mysteries of our histories, we just need a less superstitiously constrained study of our past.
Edited to add: PS: And I don't think drugs are the key to any answers either.
