Interesting thing about immersion in indigenous cultures. They teach you that our tendency to look to the stars for intelligence may blind us to the lovely fact that we are surrounded by animate nature every day. The rainforest, and work with sacred medicines within it, taught me that Outer Space isn't actually "out there." When I realized that our image of the heavens as an incredibly out of date picture gallery (light being limited in speed to 186,000 miles a second) was entirely incorrect, I just about peed my pants in glee.
I love the old texts, such as Homer's Odyssey, because they bring us back to that awareness. The Earth itself is brimming with deep, cosmic intelligences. Vast as the starry void, I dare say.
