Three different tastes of Eastern philosophy that I enjoyed. They're all Taoist books but I think you'd be pleasantly surprised.
"The Monkey," which is pure folklore fun.
"Chronicles of Tao," a blend of fantasy and reality, maybe... :)
"Lieh Tzu," one of the three sages of Taoism. Although he is the lesser know, behind Zhuang Tzu (the 'butterfly guy') and Lao Tzu (Tao de Ching author), he was my favorite. Either A.C. Graham's or Eva Wong's are good buys. Eva's isn't a straight translation but I'd recommend hers first because she does a wonderful job telling the stories. Either way, its not a long book in the traditional sense. You can probably read it in a day but to understand and appreciate it will take you much longer. Still reading mine sixteen years later :)
