Head bent, you poised there,
breath bated before the Oven Vault hissing,
Its jets laid bare -
Lady of The Gas Rings,
But you were only making rhubarb crumble!

Sunlight played outside
on broken glass and gravel,
Sifting dust through tanned legs and sandals
scuffling by an empty kerbside,
Those taut young tummies trying not to rumble -
For the gas ran out,
and you sighed
for sugar,
and a coin for more.

Embarrassedly yours, 1979 - and totally unrequited... :)

What is now proved was once only imagin'd
