Hi,

Well here in the Canary Islands it is perfectly normal to be asked for your ID when using a credit card. This is not time consuming - it is normal. An ID card is a lot easier than a passport to carry around too.

It takes about 3 seconds whilst the names are compared and is not in the least bit scary. What is it with this British obsession about not wanting ID cards?

Your details are all on file anyway and most of the population delights in giving out personal details to all and sundry over the Internet and sending round those pathetic 'Fwd, Fwd' emails which will enrich your life if you send them on to at least 10 of your best friends.

Big brother has been watching us all for years but if you're not doing anything to be ashamed of, then why worry? If anyone gets any enjoyment out of peeking in at the emails I send to my mother, then they are very sad people.

Regards, Margaret
