"The only way we can evolve is to let Nature start doing its thing again. We need to back-off and accept that Nature knows best. "
It will be pretty tough to work our way out of these two jaws! Look, science and technology is doing what it has to do to keep the billions of people on this planet clothed and fed, and even with all our technology we are barely keeping up to the task. A year and one half ago we had an energy crisis in the winter - natural gas prices spiked, and half the people who live on the south side of Chicago, where I live, could not afford to pay for the gas. Gas is a necessity to survive Chicago winters. No, I don't see how we can just leave it to Mother Nature to provide for all these needs.
Maybe if we look at all these problems as challenges and try to do our best we can survive most of them until evolution chooses to make a jump once again! Maybe it's the nature of the human race to be always, "gone off the rails."
