Two seperate issues.

Need for a Space Force has been suggested by Congress for about a decade now. Obama balked at authorizing weaponry that can take out satellites and now the Chinese and Russians have the edge. Given that so much of our daily life and infrastructure depends on satellites, the need to safeguard them is an extremely high priority. The Space Force is no joke and very much needed.

The UFO thing is just a generational shift, imo, with information no longer being controlled by the legacy media. The whole discussion has been reframed, starting with Clinton on Kimmel referring to UFOs as UAPs. That episode gave the issue some traction, adding credibility to the phenomenon to the point where the Navy's release of their 3 videos via TTS allowed their consideration in a better prepared context. With the democratization of information, they probably understand that they can't control it anymore, and figure a soft disclosure is the best way to stay in front.
