For discussions of everything that might be classed as ‘paranormal‘ - i.e. not currently accepted by our modern scientific paradigm.
I did a double take when I read this in the paper earlier today.
Obviously, there is something more going on here than simple disclosure. In the past, western governments have kept this stuff under lock and key. What is going on behind the scenes, I wonder?
I do think there is something to the theory that the US government 'hyped' the UFO phenomenon from the early 50s onwards to help cover up testing of experimental aircraft, but I really don't believe that's the whole story. Something else is also happening. And I would say a percentage of civilian sightings are genuine.
Recent testimony from military pilots worldwide suggests that encounters with these objects aren't rare. A serious scientific study in the public domain would be helpful. Without it, there's a void which is inevitably going to be filled with all kinds of nonsense.
The nutters waiting to be picked up by alien spacecraft at Mayan sites in December 2012 spring to mind here...

Nobody talks more of free enterprise and competition and of the best man winning, than the man who inherited his father's store or farm. - C. Wright Mills
