"In the beginning was the word..." (book of John)
There's a difference between what God commanded and what "man" commands. Religion involves man-made ritual and ceremony where the worship of God is purely the acknowledgment that God is the ultimate authority in your life. No ritual or ceremony needed.
God makes it very clear in the Bible that he does not like ritual and ceremony.
God created us so therefore he knows what is best for us. The creation cannot know more than the Creator.
When God commands that we do or do not do something it is for our own good. If you'll notice, everytime God tells his people to refrain from something, He also explains the consequences our actions or the result of not listening. For example: the Ten Commandments... each of know what the consequences will be if we do not follow these rules. If you murder, there are consequences, if you steal, there are consequences, etc., etc.
God does concern himself daily with his creation. Afterall, the Bible states we were created for Him.
Regarding the Gay Marriage issue: God instituted married between a man and woman. Why? Because even in nature, the mammals come together as male and female. It's the "natural" thing to do. Only by a male and female can you reproduce. Now some may say, "well you can go down to the "sperm bank" and get what you need without a man now." True, but it is still "male sperm". Homosexuality goes against the "natural use" of the natural body. And there are consequences for these actions. I know. My cousin, whom I loved dearly was gay, he died 3 years ago from AIDS. I didn't hate him for his lifestyle, nor did I judge him. But he paid with his life for his lifestyle.
If God commands us not to do something it is to keep us from harm or to show us how to live long, healthy, happy, peaceful and prosperous lives. It's that simple. He has shown us the "positive vibrations" and how to create "harmony" in our lives. Are we listening?
