Dear Magdalene
Thank you for making me feel welcome – I promise to wax lyrical about Freemasons in a moment but I did want to reply to some of the points that you raised. I really liked what you said about poetry, legends and allegories in the Bible. One book I read made the point that as Christianity was very much an underground movement when it started out, as a result the tales of Jesus’s life were wrapped in imagery that was understood at the time e.g. Fisher of Men which could have been a priestly title that was turned into Fishermen and of course the Fish. It is interesting that Jesus was born at the beginning of the age of Pisces. That is a whole subject in itself!
Continuing on the subject of erotic and the female role – some of the stories were quite racy e.g. Various ladies throwing themselves blatantly at Arthur’s knights while their Lords were out a hunting. I have not really studied them on a level besides a thundering good read and I suppose I need to. You could say the same about fairytales – Jung had a lot to say about those. You also brought up the idea of the sacrificial King and the concept of a twin – I have not come across this before although I liked how you linked it to parentage and Courtly Love. Have you got any links on this cos I would like to do some digging? That, of course brings us around neatly again to Jesus (the ultimate Sacrificed King) and whether or not he died on the cross or not. Some say he was substituted with his brother although I have not come across the idea that he had a twin. Also maybe he was on the Cross but survived it – Pontius Pilate was surprised at the shortness of time that it took for him to die considering that crucifixions could keep a victim alive for at least a day. Also when the spear was stabbed in his side he bled from it – most dead people can’t really bleed effectively because circulation has stopped. Another theory is that he was a hunchback and that is why he died quickly because he could not breath properly. They go on and on these ideas and make brilliant reading and I don’t think I know enough yet to have a solid opinion although I love the idea that he had a daughter.
I tend to agree with Alatariel who said that Freemasons are a body who come together regardless of religious belief and views and I don’t think that they are into Lucifer. Saying that however I also think that there are Freemasons and Freemasons, if you know what I mean. I just can’t see the local lodge where my Mum lives plotting to take over the world – it would interfere with the Parent Teachers Association and dinner with the Banbury’s on a Saturday for a start! I also knew a high level mason who was a God fearing man and who was involved in helping under privileged children get a good education. In fact his Charity helped a friend of mine when he was a kid after his mother died and his Dad was left with 3 children under 10.
There comes a time though where the murky world of conspiracy theory raises its head and those local lodges maybe part of a much bigger thing that they really have no idea about. It is all a little scary if you ask me. I read a really rather fab book called the Hiram Key and like a lot of books of that ilk it tied in Freemasons, back to the Templars, to Prior de Sion, to Solomons Temple and ancient Egypt. It too considered the fate of Jesus, the nature of his apostles (men and women alike) and came to the conclusion that the Freemasons were a morph (good word, Alatariel) of all that had come before and are probably manipulated by P De S to the ignorance of most members. Blimey I sound like David Ike.
Having had a look at Talisman in the previews it looks like Freemasonary will be tackled so I looking forward to seeing what GH and RB have to say on the subject. The imagery that they use is fascinating and seems to find many outlets e.g. dollar bills and Mozart’s Magic Flute is absolutely laden with it. It also suddenly occurred to me whether the Tarot reflected it in anyway e.g. The Hanged Man. That is not something I know a lot about so any ideas would be welcome or a book to read??? I could go on quite a bit more but I think that I would end up rivaling War and Peace:-) Sorry for the lenght, I hope that I have not bored you all too much.
