According to Jung and some others, symbols like the "divine child," the "virgin birth," and the "savior" or "messiah" have evolved to become important parts of the human psyche, both individual and collective. These characters and the kinds of events or journeys they have can unfold both in dreams and in real life scenarios in people's own particular journeys.
I attended a Jung center dream discussion group once where a person described a dream with a strong "divine child" element in it. And I remember having dreams where I was someone's "savior" or "healer," and that's happened many times in real life and in books and movies.
Perhaps our minds and souls are structured a priori for these kinds of events and symbols to take on real meaning and drama.
