I get the sense from some of your posts that you feel angry and frustrated over the lack of movement in our society. It is understood and I often feel the same way. I often have to tell myself that others have the right and freedom to grow at their own pace. Not everyone will progress to the stages of most of us on this board or in their own spiritual growth. I often find for me as well when after reading ancient texts and looking at the times we live in, that the ancients had it far more easier then modern day people. Maybe that is what really is torturing your mind, that we humans still cannot get over our simplest hurdle (common sense solutions, for simple problems). I often stumble across that conclusion for myself and when it happens I must put down the ancient material, take a break from the boards and get back into real life. I understand you are retired so you maybe you have more time on your hands then what is good for you. I am watching that playout now with my father who just retired 2 months ago, to much time and not enough to do. I have even joked with my father to become a Walmart Greeter part time, just to keep active and in contact with others. I am also a recovering addict and this little prayer has helped me out quite a bit, maybe it will for you as well.
God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.
In other words you lump problems into 2 categories. Those things I cannot change and those things I can change.
Here are a few things I can change:
My perception (perception is how I view the world be it good or bad - Realize it just is)
My attitude (effects how I feel on a emotional level) Abraham Lincoln once mentioned "You are only as good as you think you feel"
My Routine (routines make life mundane and boring ) The being stuck-in-a-rut feeling, changing that helps adjust attitude and perception.
Things I cannot Change
People, places and things.(period)
Only work God needs to do for you, is grant you the wisdom to know what category each problem belongs to , and faith without works is dead, in other words you have to do some of the work and God will do the rest.
Hope this helps,
