Hi David,
The science of the soul engages in a personal route and needs no teacher. It IS it's own teacher and finds its way back to god by acting out spirituality in the material life. That is why the great avatars taught simple truths - like, "love thy neigbour as thyself". Your teacher only appears interested in promoting a meditative technique to alter a state of conciousness and this appears to be a means to an end in itself. This is how cults and religions are started.
When you die, you will be known for what you have achieved on earth, how you relate to others and how you have helped them - you will not gain brownie points because you have learned to meditate, fly astrally, upwards, downwards, sideways.
Cheers,
Fuzzy
