Hi David
"Most music is channeled, and some composers channel better than others,
and some very few composers channel from very high places. Like Mozart,
who was channeling his stuff into symphonies at age 4, I believe.
Rap, otoh, is channeled from the astral lowlands... Blues and jazz, not much higher."
Hmm. Some of the more recent "Chill" music by such as Groove Armada and Royskopf can reach some very pleasing heights indeed - electronic though their sounds maybe. And then we have the haunting melodies of the theme tunes of Dr Who and The X-Files to consider.
I'm also minded of those who are "tone deaf" , together with the fact that many musicians and composers can be particularly gifted, also, with another subject - Mathematics.
Channeling - now I'd call that plain old Inspiration, in fact, as with writing, painting, sculpture, dancing - indeed with any form of Creativity. I used to walk in my own "Halls Of Creativity" late at night, with no distractions to disturb my furiously scribbling pen. And I wasn't as concerned by the source of such "windows" that opened up, as I was grateful for them in the first place!
As an aside, our Border Colly dog used to sit and cock her head to one side and howl in tune with Bach when we played it to her on the stereo.(true)
