The December 2003 Author of the Month [Laird Scranton], in his book titled "Hidden Meanings", discusses the meaning of symbols including the serpent. Laird is saying that the ancient symbols are a lesson in physics; i.e. conveying an understanding of the basic structure of matter.
If I recall correctly, the serpent is symbolic of the wave frequency linked to string theory. However, my physics knowledge is very poor; maybe another poster can recall Laird's interpretation of the serpent and explain it more thoroughly?
