I have long been intrigued by Ezekiel's vision recorded in chapter 1 of the book by his name. It is quite bizarre, but not as bizarre as some of the imaginings people have illustrated from it, from people taking everything quite literally to more creative spaceship ideas, such as Erich von Däniken's.

If the "creatures" observed are real, I wouldn't want to detract from their awesomeness. But consider this:

The vision starts out with the "opening of the heavens."
The vision is described with counts of features that don't add up, or later change a little, implying some imperfection in translation as to what features a subject actually has.
All faces of the creatures match four opposing zodiacal constellations.

I posit that the creatures are constellations coming out of the stormy cloud of the Milky Way, and the "wheel" of the earth turns within the "wheel" of the heavens full of stars (eyes), causing the constellations to rise and fall to the earth, "never turning from their course," and "stopping" every time they host the season or the sun. Their many wings fill in the space between them to divide a year into 24 parts (6x4). The crystal sphere serves as a poetic shell to mount all of these stars in. I think the whole thing could be something like a trippy vision of the heavens. We see the futile universe with futile eyes, yet it once was pulsing with the mix of spirit and matter in Eden.

There is yet to account for the "Throne of God," the noise, and the fact that Ezekiel was sent to the ground by this vision.

For anyone who would not dare diminish the idea of terrifying autonomous angels, I certainly believe in angels, but I am not so gnostic to suggest that God would not be seen in a merging of dimensions among our stars.

I think I'm on to something, so please criticize.
