What a pity your OP did not say more! My apologies for assuming the liquid idea was unlikely. I think I'll reserve judgeement though, while appreciating the link that Glass jigsaw has provided.

Edited to add that anything the 'ancients' said about the beginning of the universe was most decidedly guesswork.
