That's me Gerta, full of useless information, I have forgotten more than I remember though, old age and all that. Let me say that the Jesus 'character' was a great teacher, for instance his sermon on the mount is so beautiful plus many other of his sayings. Like wise his teacher John the Baptist and his Heir, his brother 'James 'the Just'. Its all in Acts if you really look. Jesus' brother has just one piece of work in Acts, the Epistle of James, where is the rest of his letters or writings? There's plenty from St Paul?
I like most 'Loving' Christians a lot, they are every where doing charity works, wonderful people. The problem is if all they've got is the 'book' you cannot discuss the real history with them for it can be seen as a direct attack on all they hold dear, sadly.
But back to a history with a few tit bits, When Jesus died it was a big mess. St Paul was a Herodian! and so a Roman citizen, he was killing Christians, it was his job, St Stephen being one, how many others? St Paul was going to Damascus to kill more! When he had his vision/conversion.
There were 4 types of Essenes some were really tough warriors called Sicari, historians found Qumran documents (dead sea scrolls) at the heavily fortified citadel Masada, their last stand, where they killed their families and committed suicide, after 7 months of siege rather than let them be captured and horribly raped, this would be all females, even young girls, and then sold into slavery. Just as had happened to all the other Jews during the war. The men would be tortured for information or for gladiatorial victims or what ever, the Romans were totally blood thirsty and thorough. The ramp used to break into Masada was built by Jewish prisoners of war, how many died? The ramp is there to this day.
One of St Pauls apostles Epaphroditus became Emperor Titus's, Greek language secretary! and also Emperor Nero's. He was eventually put to death by Titus's brother Emperor Domitian Saying he had raised his hand against an Emperor for holding a sword, for Emperor Nero to run on too, to commit suicide. This is in 'Flavius' Josephus' biography, (the famous Historian and turn coat Jewish general) weirdly he dedicated all his works to Epaphroditus!! Can you believe it?
Anyway do you fancy a 38 min crash course in history of the time? I'll PM you the link have a look its is very surprising stuff, its only 40 minutes long. Or if you want to see how much St Paul hated the Jesus followers in Jerusalem read Galatians in the bible.
I would always defend Jesus, he was a great teacher, very special, its a shame so much was clinically erased about him. Stay safe Gerta
