And of course the 'fittest' does not necessarily mean the ones with the most robust health. The ones who survive, i.e. those who happen, by chance mutations etc etc, to have a set of genes, and live within a group who have varing sets of genes and mutations, will by fortunate chance be adapted to whatever the physical conditions happen to be at the time. This also includes those who hav, for instance, short sight or long sight - both are useful to the hunter/gatherer groups. Remember the approximately 96% of all species wich became extinct multi-millions of years ago. Some of them were probably extremely fit physically, but they did not have the genes etc etc which enabled them to survive whatever conditions they happened to face which ensured their extinction.Quote
anyway ? From what I have been reading lately I don't think I have much faith in evolution so much as survival of the fittest.
