post cataclysm, I suspect the human brain has a hyper focus ability if under duress to maintain a fixated focus on the primary goal of passing on information as accurately as possible, because the alternative of made up stories would mean their memory would dissapear. I suspect survival instinct in the face of being erased from human memory changes the game to allow for a more literal interpretation.
