Firstly I am not an expert just a lover of history. But I like Rohl he is doing the right thing, he is still collecting data like any good scientist and this is the right way to go, weight of evidence could help him. So I like his work, it is addressing some highly intriguing areas and times for me. Can I add some more points I think need to be considered?
When we look back to ancient times and try to understand certain structures, I think we must try to understand the builders concepts including their spiritual ones, before we can try to understand them? I think we need to be a bit flexible. If a certain tribe /clan thinks that a 2 headed kangaroo jumped over the moon and created the earth by doing so and make a structure to honour this event, who are we to reject the idea because it is crazy? So for me the exact alignment is not so critical even though they are very accurate in many respects
I easily accepted Bauvals layout ideas especially because I knew of the Thornburough Henges from when I was a kid (my dad took me all over the UK looking at our amazing heritage sites) it hit me straight away. The layout of Giza and the layout of the Thornburough Henges in northern England and the huge complexes around these incredible structures, leads me to think there were similar concepts here as well as Egypt. I think this is a corroborating site to Giza. The 3 main rings of Thornburough have a layout that is the same as the Giza complex, Orion's 3 main stars. Now I haven't checked on google earth if these Henges are aligned with pin point accuracy. But the people of that time (the population at that time was small with no roads or major towns), went to a lot of trouble to make them and as the chief Archaeologist from Newcastle Uni said 'it mirrors Orion', is it upside down, is it wrong in left or right axis in its positioning, I don't know?
It is a shame more work has not been done on this complex, there is a lot of gypsum in the area which has led to many large sink holes and under ground caves and It was built 5000 yrs ago? The Henges were covered in gypsum and would have looked brilliant white when built. We actually have the UK Pagans to thank for looking after this amazing site. There is a an Aggregates company that has systematically mined the whole area with government approval for years, the Pagans now hold a Beltane festival there every year much to the chagrin of said company, this has publicised this almost unknown site, so protecting what remains of it. Here is a short utube vid which covers the complex quite well [www.youtube.com] “Thornborough, Giza & Orion Shining Above-Below” 12.53 min I recommend this vid for those who do not know of Thornburough.
Also Bauvals theory covers more than the alignment of the pyramids and covers the main stream Archaeologists 'ventilation shafts' which do align with certain stars as Bauval has claimed? They were closed off internally I am led to believe, until a english guy found them through hammering the internal walls listening for hidden chambers and he then chiselled them out so they were not ventilation shafts? But that has to have been fairly obvious anyway.
But recently Bauval and Rohl have now come out with more info/data which is covered in this 1.16 min lecture
'Giza before the Pyramids' [www.youtube.com].
It covers the complex going back before the Pyramids to when the Sphinx stood on its own with the its temple? I think they may have nailed it with this latest work so please have a look.
Matt, I gave you a link in a previous post but stupid old me posted the wrong u tube vid (although that one is quite good too). I meant the one linked above for the Robert Schock comment as it covers the weathering of the Sphinx and a lot more. He doesn't challenge the mainstream on by who and when the pyramids were built. I would value your view on this vid if you have the time, you could pm me if you like.
I hope this post isn't to rambling I have put my back out refurbishing my house and the pain is affecting my concentration some what. malc
