You are, of course, right, Eddie! Ray wil do absolutely anything to avoid actually facing up to the fact that he, as a scientist, has a belief which relies 100% on faith with not a single scrap of objective evidence, presumably because he would also have to face the fact that this would compromise his position, however much I entirely accept that he can keep his belief away from his actual work.
