Can I offer a glimpse of what some Christian Gnostics going back to what St Anthony (of the desert) practiced in early Christianity. It is a film from a documentary series called 'The Extreme Pilgrim' it comprised of 3 films each covering different religious practices. I found them all really interesting but I wanted to offer one particular perspective of the Early Christians for your perusal, I hope you enjoy it. It covers his trek through the desert to get to St Athonys Monastery, then his trek into the hills to his cave and then the 3 weeks he spends there.
The series was made by a Church of England vicar, Peter Owen Jones. He was on tv in the UK quite a lot a few years ago and did some great films, another one I really enjoyed was when he decided to try to live without money and follows him through his trials and tribulations. It is a great film, it really gives a view of those ancient times and some early Christian ways. It is at times a very personal journey but is very interesting.
He fell out of (church) favour after supporting the 1% movement but is still doing his thing, a really nice guy.
