I'm certainly open to the idea that this may be a Thomas text, but I guess that's a mystery at best.
Ironically, on one of my trips to India I crossed paths with Thomas, according to the South India traditions. There was a cave where he lived for five years, and an open area nearby where he used to preach. Thomas is said to have carved a Cross on the stone there, which I saw myself. He is said to have been killed on a hill a few miles away, while praying before a cross that he is said to have carved which remains there today.
I see this as evidence that Thomas was mainly concerned about spreading the traditional gospel. However, I don't think this necessarily means that GoT is fiction, maybe these are real sayings. But maybe Thomas' writings got sanitized by others who eventually removed certain parts...
