Words on a message board do not contain the tone of voice – or in this case, the tone of thought – in your mind while writing. It could be a compliment or a sneer. I will, therefore, respond to the words as read in a pleasant non-inflected way by Synthetic Dave.Quote
You know something, Susan, you are reliable as an atomic clock. I don't know HOW a person can become so contained in their own mental "makeup", but have the gold medal for CONSISTENCY in every post. Good for you.
Yes, I am a reliable person. I like to turn up for things in plenty of time and to make sure I am checking daily to ensure I do not forget something important. If my life had turned out differently and I had been abel to work for more years than I did, I would probably be on committees, organising things, and joining In U3A activities. I have never stopped looking for new info and learning as much as I can about the real world. It seems well evidenced now that the set of genes we are born with is not only unique, but sets a basic character which will develop according to nurture, but remains stable throughout life. I have always been naturally confident. This does not mean pushy, or over-bearing, It simply means that I have never had any fears or nerves about meeting people, going into business or social environments. Perhaps my body language is calm or something - I don't know. Therefore, people tend to feel comfortable and at ease with me, as they seem to realise that I do not threaten them. I am consistent because I do not lie. Lying is far too complicated. This does not mean I correct falsehoods in every one I meet – that would be completely against my character – but here on a message board(as in various discussion groups I have belonged to over the years), if one cannot challenge or disagree, while remaining cordial, then I would not be here.
discernment is a good idea, otherwise that sounds like gulli bility. I am always, always, looking out for new information which will improve the current state of actual knowledge; knowledge not guesswork. I have learnt to tell the difference I think, and where to assign a ‘don’t know yet’ heading.Quote
I prefer to be, as the Dowists say, fluid as water, which moves and shapes itself to whatever comes its way.
Well, my granddaughters think I’m a somewhat unusual Granny!Quote
So, thank you for being "one of a kind". If I had grandchildren, which I don't, I would most certainly tell them about the legendary work that you do. I accept you as you are.
You end with an anecdote which ended without mishap. There was no hidden meaning or spookiness about it. Just human beiongs vbehaving in one of the ways human beings behave.
I yelled at him in Urdu, "What do you want, What do you want"?!!! I wanted him to know that we were scared of him. His coworkers made him put the rock down, and they let us go.
You see, I have been able to flow around objects that were in my way. I was fluid at a young age. And so, from now on, there will not be anymore sarcasm coming from me. I see that you are yourself, and that's the way things are.
