Then what of those who have acquired a substantial rationale to DEAL with the unexpected, like a doomsday event. Animals? Maybe. Yet some will respond with a honed concern for the wellbeing of others, no matter what the crisis is. That is called SELF-CONTROL as well as COMPASSION for others suffering. It really has to do with one's identity in any or all situations beyond personal control. The one is control of self, the other is no control over others. I have seen in others a lack of personal dignity and, also, myself being out of control when I was young. Today, I take the optimist rule: always lend a hand when all else fails. This is "neighborly" and a joy to help when one CAN HELP. Some other time it is well to let go and let be.
The virtue of a highly evolved being embraces all people and things and dispels the darkness which isolates them.
