On BBC Radio 4 yesterday evening there was a programme called, The Moral Maze' and the subject was whether it was right for Northern Ireland to have different laws from the Republic. It was not a gripping programme, but the general view was that, no, it will not work, and that NI must change. However the Moslem panellist at the very end made the comment that countries have different majority views, i.e. Moslem-dominated countries - and she is a university professor and a strong defender of women's rights! Unfortunately, the programme ended at that point.Quote
Yeah, maybe it is not that simple after all! But the words for wrongdoings can be divided up. Police do not nab people for committing sins. Maybe prostitutes?! Not everybody considers that a sin. They themselves mostly consider it a trade of sorts.
It also varies from country to country, according to the prevailing religion. Not wearing a scarf or wail for instance. Is it a crime or a sin or both?
It can get even more complicated. In Ireland it was last week a crime and a sin to have an abortion. Next year it won't be!
