Both your opening posts for a new thread and the bulk of your comments represent a model for GHMB participation. You introduce a topic with some analysis and sense of direction--and follow with comments that mostly stay on topic. You do insert a great deal more about yourself than most, but it almost always allows other discussants needed background and context.
Thank you for the compliment.

You often choose difficult but interesting topics for discussion. The reminder is that these topics require background that goes well beyond the casual reading of popular sources. You neither have the training nor the experience in critical areas of knowledge--philosophy/theology and experimental science. Because of your further limited access to internet sources, you have fallen back on various board communications as your only source of knowledge. That can further distort already weak foundations.
That is, of course, what you'd like to think and it is true that I did not do a university degree course in science, but I have gone through life asking questions, reading, communicating, being a critical thinker, although I was not conversant with the term until more recent years, and always, always, questioning whether this or that was true or not. As a result, I am an unostentatiously intelligent and confident ancient person!!

This creates big problems. You don't seem to realize it, but those who have studied theology would not consider you knowledgeable enough to call yourself an atheist.
It appears to be a problem for you but I do not find it a problem myself! If I get facts wrong or am not sure, then I will always say so - I think you would find it difficult to find a place on this forum where I have not done so. What knowledge do you think theologians would come up with that you think I lack and which you think is necessary to call myself an atheist?
Quote

Likewise, those who study and practice science would not recognize your characterizations of scientific methods--nor would they consider them support for any personal philosophies.
My 'characterisations' of the scientific method? Give me a better statement of the scientific method that I do not kknow. That can be easily verified since we could always ask JonnyMcA!

It is as always interesting, and a pleasure, to exchange views with you - we are on this board a large group of old friends/acquaintances, aren't we? :)
