U.S. Representative Stephanie Murphy, D-Fla., a member of the House Armed Services Committee, will introduce legislation to disqualify participants in the violent assault on the United States Capitol and members of the conspiracy movement QAnon from obtaining or maintaining a federal security clearance, which an individual must possess in order to hold a national security position and to access classified information.
This is rather unfortunate, in my opinion. In Putin’s infinite wisdom, it’s not surprising he found such an effective loophole. Literally anyone can have access to state secrets, as long as people vote for them. Just another constitutional norm busted by Trump.
However, this is a good sign. The GOP, in its precipitous decline, has now made intelligence and defense contracting a Democratic policy platform. For the most part, Dems are usually out of the loop on this stuff. The Democratic Party is about to rewrite the entire security infrastructure, and the GOP is helpless to stop them. I’m really impressed with the Biden administration and the next Congress’ credentials. And having spent my entire life proudly in that other party, that’s really impressive.
I think I might enjoy the next four years more than liberals.
