You speak of architecture of discussion. I remember well an epiphany I had as a junior in college, thanks to a Sociology prof. He told me, before engaging in argument, try to establish terms and core suppositions. Everything flows from there and boy, did that save me a lot of energy in law school.
Reorganized my young brain in one sentence. So often, we enter discussions presuming we know the others use of loaded terms like conservative and liberal. It's a fundamentally flawed assumption.
So yes, you are right in thinking I was trying to work with Pete on that. My view is that he can't be a bigot if he calls himself a big L Liberal, as up here that party alignment connotes a conservative leaning Dem or a liberal leaning Republican.
Nonetheless, I can't be bothered with games. I play hockey these days, and that's it. Very easy to root out if that's what's really on the other's agenda in such discussions. I had hoped it would have gone the other way, but Pete's at where he's at.
