Hi Jock, I'm a firm believer in the NHS, but it is underfunded and tens of thousands of people in need have delayed and cancelled operations and suffer unnecessarily compared to private.
I'm lucky that I have company private as well as the NHS. My eyesight was deteriorating fast especially as my eyesight has always been really poor, if it had been months later I wouldn't have been able to see a television, let alone work.
My wife's kidney problems were causing, intermittently, intense pain and she had already been hospitalised.
No-one wants to wait months in pain. As I say, I was lucky in that regard, and I'd happily pay more taxes for a properly funded NHS, but in the meantime I have to make the best personal decisions.
Cheers
