While I agree with your sentiments, I request that you read Ayn Rand before commenting about her, or the roots of libertarianism. Read the "Fountainhead," "Atlas Shrugged," "The Romantic Manifesto," and "The Night of January 16th." Please. Ayn Rand was brilliant - and the roots of libertarianism are not rotten, just as the roots of conservatism are still fresh. It's the parties that started from these roots that have rotted... no different from many religions today.
It hurts when folks who do not understand the underlying core philosophy interpret it by the actions of others who profess to follow it today.
